Well that’s a wrap! 2021 done, dusted almost ‘finito’!
What a year…it’s been pretty wild – us all going into the new year thinking perhaps the worst of the pandemic might be over, only to find more new obstacles around the corner.
For me it’s been one of the busiest years of my life. Music, gigs, work, writing, meeting new people, playing with different people, renovating, doing twice a day walks with my furbaby ‘Frankie Nougat’ (possibly the most important task!), my hair has been red – it’s also been blonde. I’ve also rode the rollercoaster of emotions that most of mankind has in terms of family separation due to border restrictions. Sending a whole lot of love to all who might be on this rollercoaster or are recovering from the bumpy ride.
My life took an epic turn when an amazing NFP, I was involved with, received game-changing federal funding in August, which then resulted in ongoing employment. This NFP is the Perth International Jazz Festival and I am fortunate to be their Festival Producer (since 2020). Combining my passion, experience and love of jazz music with my events management background truly is a dream come true. In 2021 we delivered an amazing festival in Perth and Busselton that really showcased the phenomenal talent of Western Australia plus a few sneaky interstate-rs!. The team worked day and night to pull the festival together from August through to mid-November and it truly was a special event.
I’ve been blessed to have amazing support in my family and friends throughout this year and I send a huge thank you out to them. I’ve also loved playing with my main Perth band (Jeremy, Zac and Danny), starting a new project with Victoria Newton called Canta Brazil and I LOVED sneaking over to Melbourne in May (all legal of course!) to play with my old friends Locky, Tamara and Leo (the band on my album ‘Little Bird’).
2022 looks pretty massive! In January I’m (finally) recording some new music and I can’t wait to get back into the studio with some of my favourite Perth musicians. The release of this music will be in August with some special shows planned to support it. I’m also celebrating the 20th anniversary of the album ‘Come Away With Me’ with a Fringe World show (my very first Fringe shows in Perth!). There’s loads in the pipeline, so if you’re keen to hear about what I’m up to, please join my mailing list! (I promise I don’t do more than one mail out a month!)
I hope your 2021 has delivered love, joy and some special moments. Keep holding your loved ones near and have a very safe and happy festive season.
Much love
Georgie x
