Panorama Brasil are back at the Paris Cat with special guest vocalist and pianist, Georgie Aué.
Georgie joins the band for a night of music dedicated to the brilliant Brazilian singer, Elis Regina.
Well known to Paris Cat audiences for her Norah Jones and Sergio Mendes shows, Georgie joins Panorama Brasil for the first time. Her beautiful renditions in both English and Portuguese, alongside this stellar band, make this a show not to be missed.
The best of samba, bossa nova and Brazilian jazz.
Elis Regina was one of the most ferociously talented singers of her time. A perfectionist who was frequently dissatisfied, Regina drove herself and members of her band relentlessly, leading to her being dubbed “Hurricane” and “Little Pepper” by musicians and journalists. Elis commanded the respect of Brazil’s leading songwriters, who lined up for the chance to have her record one of their songs, and for much of her short life was the country’s most popular female vocalist. Panorama Brasil and Georgie Aué will be playing a selection of songs immortalised by Elis, including works by brilliant composers such as Tom Jobim and Edu Lobo.
Panorama Brasil is lead by musical director and drummer, Alastair Kerr. The group has performed across Australia over the past 10 years, including performances with Vince Jones, Alda Rezende (Brazil), Doug de Vries, Dany Maia (Brazil), and Jacqueline Gawler. They have performed at the Melbourne International Jazz Festival, Stonnington Jazz, and Adelaide Cabaret Festival, and are regulars at the Paris Cat Jazz Club.
“The band launched straight into the heady syncopations of the maracatu from Recife, transporting us immediately into the alternative reality of a wild, intensely colourful carnival, about as far removed from Adelaide in winter as you can get.”
– Stephen Wittington, Adelaide Advertiser.
Georgie Aue – voice and piano
Yael Zamir – flute
Jorge Albuequerque – guitar
Josh Bridges – bass
Alastair Kerr – drums/percussion
